XJTAG Ltd. (Cambridge, England), a supplier of boundary scan technology for system debug, has developed design for test (DFDT) software that acts as an extension to Altium's Designer software.

The software is free and increases the DFT capabilities of the schematic capture and PCB design system.

With the increasing use of dense packing of array pinned packages on PCBs physical contact at nodes and pins for test equipment is becoming practically impossible. It therefore becomes more important to include boundary scan chains at the design stage. XJTAG DFT Assistant for Altium Designer helps validate correct boundary scan chain connectivity, through full integration with Altium Designer.

"While the first prototype is being manufactured, XJTAG DFT...

Continuing its tradition of promoting and recognizing printed circuit board (PCB) design excellence, Mentor Graphics Corporation announced the winners of its 26th annual PCB Technology Leadership Awards. Started in 1988, this program is the longest running competition of its kind in the electronic design automation (EDA) industry. It recognizes engineers and designers who use innovative methods and design tools to address today's complex PCB systems design challenges and produce industry-leading products.

Prominent experts in the PCB industry judged entries from around the world in six categories that represent a wide variety of industries:

Electronic products and embedded systems are everywhere, and they’re getting more complex. A printed circuit board (PCB) lies at the heart of all of them. When done right, you don’t notice that it’s there. That means the pressure is on PCB designers to complete designs and manage board layout details error-free and, naturally, on time. Altium Designer, today’s Pick of the Week, has earned its chops helping designers worldwide do just that.

The new features and enhancements in version 16 of the Altium Designer 3D PCB design and embedded system development platform focus on design productivity and snappier automation. Three in particular sound and, after watching the videos, look really cool: The Alternative Part Choice and Component Placement System, and Visual Clearance...
